VERSION is a monthly dance party and collaboration between founder and resident DJ, Trillnatured (Jessica Hyman); MC & host Kotic Couture (Ky Wilson) and resident photographer Sydney Allen. More specifically, VERSION is a space for all who identify as and/or value the lives of queer people. Ultimately, VERSION’s mission is to facilitate—through music & dance—a safe, affirming & celebratory environment in Baltimore City nightlife for those on the LGBTQIA spectrum.

Photographs of my community and the communities I visit while meeting friends, going out, going to work, etc.

I went to the skate park in Hampden, a spot I used to frequent a lot as a teenager. I would go with my other skater friends and watch people try tricks and whip out. I always look for black folk in niche sports like these so of course I became obcessed with black skateboarders (there are not a lot and then if you include black women skateboarders you get even less search results) This short project was an ode to my love of black skateboarders. 

This was during the peak of the pandemic. I've been in protest since I was 16. I've always been vocal and I've always been active. I was not yet a photographer during the Baltimore Uprising, but once I did become a photographer it became my duty to document the important things happening in my city
