Lisa Scarbath is a Resident Artist at the Howard County Center for the Arts in Ellicott City. She creates 2D and 3D fine art mosaics and public art. After practicing law and teaching for many years, Lisa became a full-time artist in 2019. She is a board member at the Artists' Gallery in Ellicott City and for the international, online group, Contemporary Mosaic Artists. Lisa's work can be found from Frederick to Ocean City, MD.

Combining different materials in one mosaic brings a variety of textures and challenges to Lisa's work. From smalti and stained glass, to stone, slate and broken dishes, each element brings its own unique characteristics allowing her to create images that range from the strikingly realistic to the intriguingly abstract. She will often embed memorabilia and other personal items within the larger image. These treasures add layers of meaning and invite viewers to discover something new each time they engage with the mosaic. Whether it’s a shard of a beloved old dish or a fragment of a personal keepsake, these elements tell stories and spark conversations, turning each artwork into a deeply personal narrative.

Art is not just about aesthetics; it’s about creating connections and evoking emotions. Every mosaic is a tapestry of memories and experiences, woven together to form a cohesive whole. This process of storytelling through art allows Lisa to share a piece of my world with others and to invite them into a dialogue that extends beyond the visual
