Duane's profile

Duane Lutsko is an accomplished painter and art educator living in western Baltimore County. He received an M.F.A. in Painting from Brooklyn College, C.U.N.Y., Brooklyn, New York, studying with: Philip Pearlstein, Lois Dodd, Lee Bontecou, Allan D’Arcangelo, & Lennart Anderson. Lutsko received his B.A. in Fine Arts, Painting, from UCLA, Los Angeles, California, studying with: Bill Brice, Ed Moses, & Lee Mulligan.

His professional achievements include a Fulbright Fellowship to Italy, a Fellowship to the Vermont Studio Center, a Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award, and a Hass-Wlikerson Pinnacle Gold Metal in Painting. He has an extensive exhibition record including: the BC Print Exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, NY; the Arte Fiera in Bologna, Italy; and the 3rd Annual BMRE at the University of Maryland, College Park, MD. Duane has work in the permanent collections of: the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, Richmond, VA; Chase Bank of New York, Nassau, Bahamas; Bellevue Hospital, New York, NY; and Mr. & Mrs. Frank Ladd, Amarillo, TX.

Lutsko is a painting instructor at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD, where he has taught for 18 years. As an art educator and member of the National Art Education Association he has been a session presenter at national conferences and served on the Research Commission to explore the intersection of research and practice, and the implementation and policy of national core standards and goals. 

Duane taught high school art for 25 years in Baltimore County Public Schools, including 11 years at the county’s Alternative High School, offering the restorative and wellness benefits of art to at-risk youth from the region.

Lutsko has dedicated his creative and professional teaching experience to exploring the intersection of the arts, psychology, neuroscience, and wellness. He recently presented to the Penn Center for Neuroaesthetics at the University of Pennsylvania, Perelman School of Medicine. 

Duane is a practicing artist / painter, an FAA licensed pilot, and is a vocal and practicing advocate for the arts.
