Margaret Atwood's book, "The Penelopiad" was the inspiration for this series of paintings. I pulled certain images from the story of Penelope,  wife of Odysseus, who was left behind when her husband sailed off to adventure the world. She spent most of her time weaving a shroud, for example, to keep the suitors from her doorstep. She undid her work every night because once the shroud was completed, she would have to marry one of her many suitors. 

When I layer wet paper on top of wet paper it becomes an object of sorts. I gently pluck up parts of the top layer so I can see what's underneath.

The Mound work refers to dark and challenging times.
