Since learning how to thread a needle at age 6, I’ve been entranced with the ability of textiles to be transformed and turned into something greater than their humble beginnings.
I sew because I love the process and ritual of stitching. I began quilting because that creative ritual results in a useful object. However it is an object that provides an blank canvas for creative ideas: color, whimsy, eye-catching designs, thought-provoking images, and important messages. I also love learning about textile traditions and new techniques. Many of these make their way into my quilts and quilted pieces.
My current body of work merges traditional textile techniques with modern concepts. Vintage and upcycled materials are an important component and I use words extensively. Several series in progress explore topics such as mental health concerns and women’s issues.
I live in the Baltimore area with my family but am technically owned by two cats.
