While teaching a course at the Maryland Institute College of Art, titled Cultural Perspectives, I would often talk about an artist's ability travel between the classes. I thought I would test my own theory and decided I would attempt to make Foxhunting Paintings, i.e. Sporting Art. I would attempt to embed myself into a culture, somewhat foreign, from my blue collar/working class roots. I began scouting out the culture and photographing for paintings. I've always pushed my students to paint what they know, and before I knew it my research had taken me to another level.

I grew up in a flea market family; we supplemented much of our income through the flea market and yard sales trade. From a young age I learned to find value in places that others ignored. As an artist I want to provide a window for others to appreciate things they may often overlook or undervalue.
