While teaching a course at the Maryland Institute College of Art, titled Cultural Perspectives, I would often talk about an artist's ability travel between the classes. I thought I would test my own theory and decided I would attempt to make Foxhunting Paintings, i.e. Sporting Art. I would attempt to embed myself into a culture, somewhat foreign, from my blue collar/working class roots. I began scouting out the culture and photographing for paintings. I've always pushed my students to paint what they know, and before I knew it my research had taken me to another level. I often refer to myself as a method painter because of this. In trying to get to know my subject, I began riding lessons and I had become a member of the second oldest sanctioned hunt club in the country. I adopted a rescued horse to hunt and can also occasionally be seen showing foxhounds in the ring at houndshows.
