I have devoted the majority of my professional career to the performance of contemporary classical music, with a particular emphasis on music by living American composers.

In addition, I have commissioned and/or premiered over 40 works by American composers.

Annual performance of NYC Composer Phil Kline's Unsilent Night organized in Baltimore by Brian Sacawa. Unsilent Night is Phil Kline's free outdoor participatory sound sculpture of many individual parts,recorded on cassette tapes, cd's and mp3's, and played through a roving swarm of boomboxes carried through city streets annually. People bring their own boomboxes and drift peacefully through a cloud of sound which is different from every listener's perspective.

The Mobtown Modern Music Series was introduced in January 2008 to fill a void in Baltimore?s vibrant music scene and to serve as a catalyst for musical innovation and the creation and presentation of the new music of our times. Through the presentation of today?s most relevant, innovative, and engaging new music and reimagining the total concert experience, Mobtown Modern fosters meaningful encounters with music, musicians, and composers and actively engages a diverse audience in experiences of contemporary music that are unexpected, challenging, and inspiring.

Turn Around Norman is a Baltimore/DC/NY based jazz quintet focused on performing original modern compositions and re-workings of compositions not typically played in the jazz setting. The band consists of Cam Collins-alto sax, Brent Madsen-trumpet, JJ Wright-piano, Adam Hopkins-bass, and Nathan Ellman-Bell-drums.

Quartet Offensive is an ensemble of Baltimore musicians devoted to composing and performing new music. The group blurs the lines between jazz, rock, metal, and experimental music with a constant focus on improvisation. Quartet Offensive consists of John Dierker-reeds, Eric Trudel-sax, Matt Frazao-guitar, Adam Hopkins-bass, and Nathan Ellman-Bell-drums.

Whereas my larger quartet and jazz orchestra ensembles focus more on my original compositions and arrangements, this ensemble tends to allow me to more often present the works of other artists and jazz standards that work well in this setting without a piano.
