Texts into Talismans...Till human voices wake us, and we drown.
When I realized that I could be wearing excerpts of J.S. Bach's B Minor Mass, or Edgar Allan Poe's The Raven, or a story from my own thesis collection, I got to work making these smooth, lightweight, reversible earrings that read left to right. And when I realized that the Maryland Book Bank (a fantastic organization that collected and distributes books to educators and parents) has to toss many donated books into the recycling bin due to irrelevance or poor condition, I got busy transforming texts into talismans.
About Sarah
Sarah Berger is a writer, teacher, editor, maker, and classical singer. She’s a graduate of Oberlin College and the Peabody Conservatory, and although she's been soprano-ing for the last 20 years, she recently completed an MFA in creative writing and publishing arts at the University of Baltimore, for which she produced a thesis collection entitled The Magic Tampon Machine and Other Stories. She won University of Baltimore's 2023 "Plork" award for exceptional creativity.… more
