Exploring objects and textures in nature and capturing the drama of light outdoors have inspired my artwork for as long as I can remember; and until a couple of years ago, I worked predominantly in oils and pastels. I am also a knitter and raised sheep for more than a decade. As a result, I accumulated a collection of wool roving and yarn. Frida Kahlo's Blue HouseWhile visiting Frida Kahlo's blue house in Mexico City, I found a chip of cement that had fallen off the exterior blue wall onto the sidewalk. I carefully brought the chip home and had it in my studio for months thinking about how I could incorporate it into a felted piece. When I found blue roving that was similar to the blue of Kahlo's house, I was able to pull my ideas together into this piece. (2019)
