My work explores the way smell can unlock memories, linking us to the past. For me, the smell of incense captures my father's apartment, a scent that evokes both comfort and loss, reminding me of when a the top floor of his apartment burnt down. Smoke. Represented during the duration of this piece. The incense took form as the hair, symbolizing regrowth.

A wearble art piece that blends African motifs with Modern African American symbols. Two faces merge into one, representing the tension between the past and the present. The accompanying performance explores the intersectionality of being a woman and an African American in the United States. Two dancers each wearing the bralette and liked by synthetic hair, improvise movement to a song while navigating the constraint of the hair. Eventually, the hair disconnects, permitting the dancers freedom of motion.
