"Halloween in Havre de Grace" I originally inteded to do this as a plein air painting, during the October First Friday Celebration in Havre de Grace, MD, but as I began, the weather turned bad, and I packed up my equipment for the day. When I arrived back home, I decided to change it to a studio painting, and I switched to using a pallet knife.

About Scott

I am a Maryland artist, using acrylics to capture a variety of subjects - landscapes, figurative and portraiture,  plein air and studio works, and also humorous paintings.

For years, one of my hobbies was the painting of small portraits of people, pets, and animals on glass Christmas Balls.  Seven years ago, a co-worker had a brand new baby and I painted the baby's portrait on a ball and gave it to her as a gift.  The next thing I knew, I started getting requests from other… more

Humorous paintings

This series of paintings many of which were inspired by the horror/monster movies that were shown on the local tv stations every Saturday night, when I was a kid growing up in rural Western Maryland.

Mostly, they were the classic Universal Moster movies of the 30's - 60's.  Of course, as a kid, I loved them.  Now I can put my own spin on them.

Their Romantic Hike Is About to Be Interrupted By the Angry Villagers From Last Night
This is a humorous painting showing the Frankenstein Monster and his bride, as they are enjoying a romantic hike in Rocks State Park. This is an actual depiction of the path up to The King and Queens Seats, a notable rock formation in Harford County Maryland. Note the faces of other famous movie monsters - Wolfman, Dracula and The Creature From The Black Lagoon - in the trees, and bushes of the forest.

Portraits

These are portrait/figurative paintings of subjects engaged in various activities.

Plein Air and Nocturnes

These plein air and nocturne paintings were all painted in the Baltimore-Annapolis area of Central MD.    For convenience, and consistancy, I have settled on using 11" x 14" primed canvas board, with acrylic paints for most of my plein air paintings.

Portraits on Christmas Balls

I use acrylic craft paints to render portraits directly onto glass Christmas balls.

A lot of the Christmas Ball portraits that I paint are actually memorializing my customer's loved ones who have passed. The people depicted on the bottom 3 balls have all passed.
