Scott's profile

I am a Maryland artist, using acrylics to capture a variety of subjects - landscapes, figurative and portraiture,  plein air and studio works, and also humorous paintings.

For years, one of my hobbies was the painting of small portraits of people, pets, and animals on glass Christmas Balls.  Seven years ago, a co-worker had a brand new baby and I painted the baby's portrait on a ball and gave it to her as a gift.  The next thing I knew, I started getting requests from other people to paint similar portraits of their loved ones.  I was in business!

In January of 2019, I started painting canvases, and it quickly became a year-round pursuit.  After I retired in mid-2020, I've really been focused on creating my art.   Because I am an avid outdoorsman, I love to depict the outdoor experience.  I am fascinated by the interplay between light and shadows, and how it creates depth.  I love the way lighting conditions change throught the day, throughout the seasons, and with different weather.   I like to get out there and engage with people, and to document their activities in my own style.  It helps that I'm still able to lug my french easel and supplies up some pretty steep and uneven rocky paths.

My work is often on display at the Harford Artist's Association Gallery, and their satellite locations around Bel Air, MD.
My work is on permanent display at the Liriodendron Gallery in Bel Air, MD.
I'm a recent new member of the Maryland Portrait Painters.
I was the featured artist for the April/May 2021 issue of Harford's Heart Magazine.
I was juried into the 8th Annual Exhibition of the Oxford Arts Alliance (2022)
I was juried into the "From Mountain to Marina" show that was a cooperative undertaking of the Allegany Arts Alliance (in Cumberland, MD) and the MD Federation of the Arts (in Annapolis) in 2022.
