Micah E. Wood - 'You, Me, the Reign'

Micah E. Wood’s 3rd album 'You, Me, the Reign' embodies the feeling of being in love in a backdrop of anti capitalist protest, confusion, and unrest, with the bubbling intensity of 70’s disco and art rock. The interplay of both highly political songs and love songs coalesce into a unique record that bursts with high energy and ambition.

This album carries pointed references to inspirational musicians such as Stereolab (with Altered Kindness), LCD Soundsystem (with Don’t Wanna Go Back), and Sault (with You, Me, the Reign). There are nods to Micah’s long-running affection for disco beats, jazz and funk, and even oft-overlooked genres such as kraut-y no wave (Delusion, Projection).

This record also exhibits a genuine love for the Baltimore community, featuring local virtuosos such as Eyas, N A E, notcharles, Eze Jackson, Glorian, and more.

Musician Portraits, 2022

The motivation for my musician portraits is always to capture the bands/artists the way they want to be seen. I was disheartened to hear that magazines and photographers would often ask bands to dress up or pose in a way that would better “fit their music." As a photographer and musician myself, that doesn't feel right to me. The best work I've ever created comes from collaboration, which is what I strive for.

Album Covers

I love Photographing/Art Directing album covers. No matter how many times people say "don't judge a book by it's cover" they do. Representing an album's sounds and words through its cover is both eye catching as it is important. One of the main reasons I started collecting records as a kid was their album covers. These are a collection of covers I've done for Baltimore bands from DIY to major label.

Micah E. Wood - Music

Born in the Tidewater of Virginia, Micah E. Wood moved to Baltimore in 2009 and quickly entrenched himself in the art scene. Befriending and collaborating with musicians across genre, be it the wild and weird hip hop wordsmiths, seductive dance producers, or the roots players. Micah’s sound is deeply influenced by Baltimore’s musical communities, creating a sonic cholent, long-stewed in Charm City.

Micah E. Wood returns with a fun-filled EP soaked in pop hooks bolstered by musical contributions of Baltimore’s finest. A long-time collaborator in the highly potent Baltimore arts scene, his sound has taken new form on this record, leaning into his talent as a songwriter able to craft the catchiest of melodies out of even the most mundane subjects. The EP is a delightful rock record perfect for a bouncy walk around the park. You will hear some Lou Reed, some Regina Spektor, some Kevin Morby and a whole world of Baltimore on this one. So put on your walking shoes, pop in the ear buds, embrace the end of a sweltering summer with a 6-song EP that will keep you bouncing as the steps add up.

“A prolific collaborator and charismatic performer, Wood has become a staple of the local music scene.“
-Baltimore Magazine, 2022

“Here, he emerges with six new nostalgia-tinged songs that feel like the fruits of his labors, evolving from the lovelorn lyrics and digi-pop melodies of his early work into some of his most expansive songwriting and versatile vocals yet—including his first true rock song, which draws inspiration from the likes of Lou Reed and Ramones.”
-Baltimore Magazine, 2022

“This is not your square grandparents' typical Xanadu or ABBA-odyssey but an updated vision of the polyester era through a dream machine lens captured in high def.“
-Week In Pop 2021

“Baltimore’s resident troubadour Micah E. Wood returns with a new single and love song we’ve been waiting for all along.”
-Baltimore Magaine 2020

“In a world of bravado and swagger, Micah E. Wood’s unapologetically heart-on-his-sleeve music is a breath of fresh air.”
-Baltimore Magaine 2019
