Micah's profile
Micah E. Wood (he/him) is a Photographer, Musician, and Professor of Photography at Maryland Institute College of Art. His portrait photography flows with the vibrancy of the Baltimore music scene. Exploding with color, the work builds a sense of belonging and intimacy to the subject that can only be achieved by a thorough understanding of the specialness and sense of place in Maryland. Over the past eight years, Micah has continued his documentation of individuals in the local music scene, from emerging indie artists such as electropop legend Dan Deacon, to Snail Mail, and underground post-punk bands. Micah just released his sophomore portrait book 'Scene Seen', featuring all Baltimore musicians photographed from 2016–2024. Comprising a 300-page full-color photo book, Scene Seen is a massive feat of loving dedication and follow-up to his 2016 book, Features.
“[Micah] is also one of its most steadfast champions, working across genres and celebrating its myriad artists through his colorful photography work.”
- Baltimore Magazine, 2022
“For the past decade, Wood has trained his lens on other musicians, creating a multifaceted portrait of a community he’s part of, and with a palpable sense of affection.”
- Bmore Art, 2022
“There’s a musical quality to each image as well, a poppy sensibility that feels friendly and authentic, an intimate look into an unguarded moment that could function as a still from a music video you’d want to watch”
