During the Summer of 2020, I was asked to create a short segment in a group project inspired by a poem that was created in response to the Ahmaud Arbery Murders that took place. The film premiered on Netflix on December 28th 2020. The film received a peabody award and was nominated for an NAACP Award nomination for Best Animated Short and the Hollywood Critics Association Award nomination for Best Short. Every animator donated their time to the project and all proceeds collected were donated to a Black Lives Matter organization and HBCU’s; Morgan State University and Alabama State University’s animation departments.

Black Lives Matter Inside Out Project

Organized by Morgan State University’s Visual Arts Department, the Black Lives Matter Inside Out Group Action is a visual response to the #BlackLivesMatter Movement. Created in 2012 after the murder of Trayvon Martin, the movement “[broadens] the conversation around state violence to include all of the ways in which Black people are intentionally left powerless at the hands of the state.” Our Group Action aims to shed light on the presence of invisible boundaries and limitations placed on Black people throughout different facets of our lives.
