Halloween in HdG.jpg"Halloween in Havre de Grace" I originally inteded to do this as a plein air painting, during the October First Friday Celebration in Havre de Grace, MD, but as I began, the weather turned bad, and I packed up my equipment for the day. When I arrived back home, I decided to change it to a studio painting, and I switched to using a pallet knife.
About Scott
I am a Maryland artist, using acrylics to capture a variety of subjects - landscapes, figurative and portraiture, plein air and studio works, and also humorous paintings.
For years, one of my hobbies was the painting of small portraits of people, pets, and animals on glass Christmas Balls. Seven years ago, a co-worker had a brand new baby and I painted the baby's portrait on a ball and gave it to her as a gift. The next thing I knew, I started getting requests from other… more

Humorous paintings
This series of paintings was inspired by the horror/monster movies that were shown on the local tv stations every Saturday night, when I was a kid growing up in rural Western Maryland.
Mostly, they were the classic Universal Moster movies of the 30's - 60's. Of course, as a kid, I loved them. Now I can put my own spin on them.

The Moment When Dierdre Realized That Her Perfect Date Was a Vampire.jpgThis painting is a nod to a renouned painting by Edouard Manet titled "A Bar at the Folies-Bergere", painted in 1882. To find the humor in my painting, first- you'll need to be up-to-date with your vampire lore, and secondly - you'll need to compare the two paintings pretty closely. (Hint: Dierdre is wearing the green dress - and a surprised expression.)

Waiting For Daybreak, Listening For The First Gobble.jpgMy goal with this painting was to capture that magical pre-dawn light that we oudoor enthusiasts so love. There is a point EVERY morning, at which you can clearly see things, but there isn't enough light to actually see colors. Everything appears as shades of gray. As an outdoorsman, I've witnessed that light many times. This past Spring, after a beautiful morning spent turkey hunting, I resolved to render the experience on canvas. So, I painted this from my memory of the scene, on a 16" x 20" stretched canvas.
-
