The work of Novaes & Sons Luthiere Collective emerges from a lineage of Brazilian craftsmanship and classical music tradition, founded in 2021 in Baltimore, Maryland by renowned luthier Carlos Novaes and his son Lucas Novaes. The collectives practice reflects a dialogue between classical standards and contemporary approaches to instrument making, marking the beginning of a new generational chapter in the Novaes family legacy. Lucas Novaes, born in 1994 in São Paulo, Brazil, grew up in a family of artists, craftsmen, and musicians. He studied classical music under José Egídio de Oliveira and fine arts with Roberto Luiz de Sá throughout high school, where his work was recognized with international scholarships. Living in the United States since 2012, Lucas has exhibited work in numerous venues across the country, including galleries in Texas, Delaware, Philadelphia, and New York.
