Julia Cooke is an artist specializing in surrealist animation and painting. She’s inspired by the unease and ridiculousness of everyday life, and her work exhibits an absurd mix of high and low culture nurtured by a worldview extending from Taiwan to Italy to Hampden. She is completely self-taught, taking little to no inspiration from media due to growing up without a TV, giving her art a unique, authentic attribute. She founded and is a core member of the art collective Sideworld, and runs a DIY concert venue, where many of her paintings and animations are showcased.
