Gayle Mangan's profile
Gayle Mangan Kassal is an Annapolis-based artist, muralist, and educator whose work celebrates vibrancy, movement, and joy through bold, expressive color. A 2023 recipient of a Maryland State Arts Council Public Art Grant, she draws on her personal journey as a breast cancer survivor to inform her practice, creating large-scale, site-specific murals and fine artwork for schools, hospitals, public institutions, and private clients across Maryland and the Northeast. Her work transforms spaces into visually engaging environments that strengthen community, reflect local identity, and celebrate life—extending the impact of painting beyond the frame.
Kassal has also been selected for over 15 Arts in Education grants from the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, magna cum laude, from Salve Regina University and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, where her passion for painting and floral imagery was shaped through extensive travel abroad. A former adjunct professor and current visiting educator in Anne Arundel County public schools, she is deeply committed to art’s power to heal, inspire resilience, and foster connection.
Often drawing inspiration from the natural beauty of the Chesapeake Bay, Kassal’s work creates welcoming, immersive environments that celebrate life, transform communities, and invite viewers to engage with art in meaningful ways.
