ARTIST STATEMENT
Photography to printmaking, negative to matrix. All images are
latent until developed and printed on paper. Photography allows
for the capture of what is seen and composed in the present,
within that fleeting moment. With printmaking, I merge 13th and
21st century technologies. Using free hand, camera, computer
and inkjet printer, as well as found and created objects, I create
organic shapes and patterns, resulting in abstract monoprints
and photogravure like prints. Creating in a non-toxic workspace,
photopolymer plates are etched by ultraviolet light and water.
Opaque markings on the plate become soft when exposed to
ultraviolet light and washes away with water, creating the
recesses that hold ink. Areas unmarked become hard and form
the surface. Bold marks, depth, texture, color and movement
best describe my work.
