Jonah's profile

Jonah Brock originally hails from central Illinois. In 2021 he received a B.A. in Visual Art and Art History from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. His work has been exhibited in various locations, such as the Museum of Art Fort Collins in Fort Collins, CO, SVA Residencies Online Galleries, and Night Owl Gallery in Baltimore, MD. He has attended residencies at the School of Visual Arts New York, Rockland Residency in Belfair, WA, and The Machine Shop in Colorado Springs, CO. In addition to visual art, he is also a writer, and in 2019 performed spoken word poetry at TEDxColorado Springs: Frontiers. He is currently based in Baltimore, MD, where he also curates exhibitions at home and in guest locations, most notably The Peale Museum.

Jonah makes paintings, videos, drawings, and sculptures. Occasionally, he also writes and performs. His work talks about the body. He is inspired by psychoanalysis, horror films, and subcultures. He's interested in queerness as a site of the uncanny, and the anxiety and fascination surrounding transgender identity. Pairing the transsexual and/or disabled body with surreal imagery, his work calls to monstrosity, intimacy, loneliness, and the divine.
