Stephanie's profile

Stéphanie Etienne, CNM, MPH is a midwife, herbalist and filmmaker. She has been a birthworker since 2006 when she trained be a community-based doula as a member of the Community Birthing Project in New York City. Her belief in pregnancy and birth as revolutionary spaces led her to become a midwife. She moved to Baltimore in 2017 and became a co-founder of the Bloom Collective, a perinatal wellness and maternal health advocacy space. Stephanie also works with several organizations dedicated to reducing maternal and infant mortality in the African Diaspora including the National Association to Advance Black Birth (NAABB) and Foundation for the Advancement of Haitian Midwives (FAHM).

As a filmmaker, Stephanie is able to give voice to all aspects of her identity. She is a co-director/co-producer of Listen to Me, a documentary exploring Black women’s journeys to and through motherhood. She finds grounding and strength in her Haitian ancestry. Mothering three amazing humans is her highest calling and greatest honor.
