Content with following her own muse, the independent-minded singer/songwriter Lisa Cerbone has quietly built a strong body of work since the 90â??s. Lisa, also a full-time mother of two and a former teacher, has always made a conscious effort to create music for the love of art and writing. In her new collection of songs, she continues this quest, while also balancing motherhood and songwriting. Recorded when her children were at school, or asleep late at night; and written during the edges of her days, she has created another intimate and lovely recording.
Cello Populus (populus - latin for poplar and popular) is a collection of 20th and 21st century music for solo cello. Choosing the pieces for this album wasn't easy since there is plenty of good cello music out there, so I decided to pick compositions that in my opinion can truly connect with the listener in the same way that Mozart or Beethoven do. I believe that the material here will one day be as popular in the world's concert halls as the Bach's Cello Suites are. Included below are the beautifully written notes from the CD itself.

A shadow puppet show from a Turkish fairytale, with (mostly) traditional American music. Put together in about a week and performed live at the Golden West Cafe, in Baltimore, Maryland, August 6th, 2010! Upon returning to Baltimore, I would like to continue with collaborative projects like this one.
Artist Statement
HANDLE FOR THE AXE

In my artwork, I have always dealt with tensions, harmonies, and metaphorical dichotomies that I express through visual and processual contrasts. Thus, alterations between different forms of casting and mark making, the relationship between the organic and the inorganic, and rhythmic, shifts between modulation and improvisation have always been at the core of my vocabulary as a ceramic artist.

These performance clips are taken from various concerts and recordings where I am either a sideman in someone else's project, or a project that I am not a primary composer. This includes groups where the music is completely improvised. Clips included are from the following projects: The Trudel/Hopkins Duo, Danny Gouker's Signal Problems, miscellaneous clips from The Banff Workshop, and recordings from my trio in a more traditional jazz context.

For the past seven years, I have been creating work that is somewhat hard to classify. On the surface, some of them may simply appear to be shows that I've produced which incorporate performance, live music and sometimes a party atmosphere. In reality, they are concepts that I've come up with that one would think to be the least commercially viable idea for any type of success or financial return. And with these "losing" or "bad ideas", my work, like every product available to man, is to convince an audience that this is something they need in their lives.
