It is all subjective, defined by one’s sense of intensity…
For years, I walked through woodlands, photographing/gathering; leaves, stones, pieces of bark or moss. I observed form and color, was aware of the graceful calligraphy of birds in flight, but rarely noticed the insects, small mammals and individual plants, the substructure of the woodland that created a kind of hieroglyphic sign language whose meaning of was overpowered by grander forms and colors.

"Geomantic" is an interdisciplinary project that uses the paintings, sculptures and journals of a fictional character, Hermes Orgone. The project uses mediums that include light, sculpture, painting, photography and 16mm film. The project ties together three geographic areas including Baltimore, Washington DC and Frederick. The main painting of the series depicts the Maryland Geographic area depicted as a woman. The sculptures done around the area not only relate to geography but also to the woman's biology.
