Lace, like a woman, is made of exquisitely strong fiber. By incorporating my own dresses and my grandmother's laces into my work, I feel a connection to the past. The fabrics tease the mind by holding their original image, yet allowing for the creation of something new.
A series of road maps piled on top of one another to break down functionality and build composition. These composites explore space as something moved through not by going north or south, east or west, but everywhere at once. Visual interpretation of the Feynman Model.
Ongoing series of maps with a textured collage element and intricate/chaotic lines. Maps with broken down practical functionality that instead present visual interpretations of the Feynman Model and entropy. Explorations of how lines move through space and time.
Unstretched canvas with collage and oil paint. Long term paintings, ranging from 6 moths to a years worth of work a piece, pushing histories within paintings. This is done by building up a layer of a painting with subject matter, finding areas that deserve reconsideration, and "Killing" out the other subjects with large planes of paint. This act turns what was subject into context within a painting and enriches the paintings multiple histories.
I work full time as an art educator in the Baltimore City Public School system. I work hard to develop an art curriculum that is rigorous, engaging, and also addresses therapeutic needs. Community art which allows students to process and reflect on personal experiences is invaluable! Current large scale projects include a large scale labyrinth and meditation space, school murals, and a recycled fashion show. I am currently working at a MD Green school and incorporate environmental literacy and mindfulness into instruction.
This is a work in progress. I am interested in expressing the moment captured in time â??looking out & inâ?? â?? what is unique about our environment.
When traveling, in particular to a specific place and for a large amount of time, I keep and make journals for that individual experience. These are some samples of the book that was made while and after traveling in Cuba.
