About David
Baltimore City Station North AE District

I strive to create objects that illustrate a symbiotic relationship between man-made form and the natural world utilizing organic and mechanical imagery. The images gain their power through turbulent and dynamic juxtapositions created with contrasting media, texture, and form.
In the combination of metal, nature, and earth I am after the unimaginable; a metamorphosis of microbiology, science fiction, industrial technology, and raw nature. The forms I create are deeply rooted in autobiographical content developed to enhance a unique visual language. I am interested in exploring a… more

The Space Between
The sculptural narrative refers to a specific moment of clarity. A visual meditation of our relationship to all organisms and how a universal structure connects time and space.

Hybrid Ecosystem
This sculpture functions as a water circulation and collection system. Precipitation is collected into the radiator vessels and supplies water to aquatic plants growing in the lower section. The water is recycled back through the top of the sculpture to illustrate a cyclical process. The design highlights our relationship to the planet and the delicate balance needed to protect the environment.

Multiverse Origin
This image was inspired by the concepts surrounding parallel universes. Of special interest is the brane multiverse in relation to M-theory and 3 dimensional perspective. Manipulation of our space, with respect to the physical nature of Earth, is the focus of this sculpture. Suspension is used as a symbol illustrating the nature of particles and gravity.

Conservation is the focus of this sculpture. The form is designed to capture water and assist in irrigation. Human, animal, and insect forms create a visual dialogue and accentuate a symbiotic narrative.

Fracking
A sculptural representation of our addiction to fossil fuels and the systematic destruction of earth. The forced injection of pressurized water into the ground will have a profound impact on the planets molecular foundation. Fire in tap water, earthquakes, sinkholes, and toxic waste are consequences of our addiction to carbon based energy. This aggressive manipulation comes at the expense of other organisms and leads to mass extinction.

CRISPR Dragonfly
Image based on CRISPR genome editing. Plant, animal, human, and mechanical characteristics are used as a visual language to illustrate an evolving scientific frontier. What form will the cascade of genetic changes take? How much control can science maintain over the governing laws of nature? Genome editing has great potential as a tool to understanding, but not changing, the course of evolution.

Extinguisher
Extinguisher is designed for the Environmental Guardian series. The form illustrates the increasing influence human's have on the environment. Extinguisher relates to the increase of wild fires, cause by draught, through global warming. The form is built around a central channel that filters water into a containment vessel. Our manipulation of science and technology has not evolved into a symbiotic relation with nature. Our actions frequently have a negative impact on the planet.
