Live performance is their essence. Though the duo is not even a year old, Kaitlyn and Z have performed on stage, in the lime light, for most of their lives. Kaitlyn is a trained musician and has played music since childhood, while Z's primary artistic focus for last 20 years has been clowning (Baker Portfolio Z Smith). The Double Stops love bringing their energy to the stage to create a memorable and engaging live performance for their audiences. Community Jams
The clips featured in this video are from International Play Music on the Porch Day and a classic house jam. Traditional bluegrass jams are musical collaborations where the group holds down the structure of the song and soloists leap forward to improvise and show off their skills. At our house jams, anything goes; they are a fun way to bring people together, mix genres, and discover new sounds. Last year the Double Stops hosted many jams including PERILLA FEST, which was in honor of a friend and music mentor who passed away in 2024.
About The Double Stops
The Double Stops, an acoustic duo comprised of Z Smith and Kaitlyn Lee, is a musical collaboration catalyzed by the departure of a mutual friend and bluegrass phenomenon. Though the group is just over a year old, you can find them around Baltimore playing old country, bluegrass, and whatever they damned well please!

Kaitlyn is a trained musician and has played music since childhood, while Z's primary artistic focus for the last 20 years has been clowning ( Z Smith Baker Portfolio). The Double Stops love bringing their energy to the stage to create a memorable and engaging live performance for their audiences. While most of their projects can be considered "Live Performance" they have included this section to highlight events where they are curating the majority of the audiences experience.

'West Virginia Oh My Home' - Bob Perilla's Memorial
This was on January 6th 2025 - the first time Kait & Z ever sung onstage together. The friend who had introduced them only a few months before, Bob Perilla, had passed away suddenly, and they were honored to go up on stage with some of his friends and bandmates from through the years to sing a few. Kait and Z never stopped singing together, and several months later, officially became The Double Stops. In this clip they are singing with Tina Kaarsberg of Bob Perilla's Big Hillbilly Bluegrass Band.
-
'Tonight The Bottle' with Bob Perilla
If it wasn't for Bob Perilla, The Double Stops would not be a duo, and Z would not play the bass. They owe this man a lot. Though he is no longer around, Kait & Z still feel his presence every day; through the 'Bluegrass cloud,' connection with this musical community, and sometimes hanging out with his cardboard cutout.
