    Mito-conduit Extrusion Event I, 2026

Constructed from PVC pipe, this work explores the relationship between human-made systems, like infrastructure, and systems that can be seen in nature. A playful challenge to the Cartesian grid, a system long used to control the natural world, this piece calls attention to the systems that we build to keep us living comfortably separated from nature--systems we all too often overlook, until they fail.

    Arbortechture III (3 Planks), 2025

Planks of Red Oak, machined perfectly flat. Seven feet tall by eight inches wide by one inch thick. Engraved with a pattern of rectilinear shapes evenly spaced one quarter inch apart, showcasing the relationship between human-designed geometric patterns and patterns that are seen in the natural world. A commentary on how the Cartesian grid has long been a system used for the ordering and control of nature, proposing a harmonious relationship between the two.

    Water Sharing System, 2023

Functional water fountains constructed from copper pipe. Systems of infrastructure turned into sculptural water features. Each fountain draws water from its own basin and empties into the other--without the cooperation of each fountain, the system will fail.

About Ben

I made my first sculpture when I was 13 by straightening a paper clip I found and bending it at random right angles, imagining a line moving along a 3-dimensional grid. This became a habitual exercise I would do to keep my hands busy when I was bored, and would turn into the foundation of my sculptural practice. I was born on the east coast, lived in California for almost 20 years where I received a BFA from California College of the Arts in San Francisco, and I currently live and work in… more

Wire Sculptures

The next iteration after my first sculptures made out of paper clips, and before I started using PVC and copper pipe, these pieces served as sketches for the larger work I would go on to make. Each piece is about 2" to 4" wide.
