    Get It Right This Time

Centering the lived experience of the modern Black woman, Alexis renders a solo that serves as a sonic mirror for the 'unsung' pursuit of happiness. This is more than a soulful ballad; it is an unflinching anatomical study of heartbreak and hope. By stripping away the performative layers of 'safety,' the character invites a shared reflection with the audience, transforming individual frustration into a communal anthem of resilience. Through Rickey Solomon’s direction, this moment serves as the heartbeat of the production, proving that the most profound truths are often found in the melodies we are afraid to sing alone.

  • Don't Cry

“Don’t Cry” is an intimate exploration of vulnerability, restraint, and emotional truth that everyone can relate to at some point in their life. The song dwells in moments of quiet where grief, memory, and resilience intersect, allowing space for feeling without resolution. Through a measured, deliberate musical language, the work honors the courage it takes to remain present with pain rather than move past it. In resisting sentimentality, the piece reframes tenderness as strength and listening as an act of care, inviting everyone who listens to it into a shared, reflective experience grounded in honesty and human connection.

This theatrical production is an artist-driven exploration of how a group of college students navigate identity, ambition, and belonging within the pressures college life brings. • Leap Of Faith

“Leap of Faith” is a contemplative musical composition that explores trust, uncertainty, and emotional risk through restraint and repetition. This piece unfolds patiently, using subtle shifts in tone, texture, and dynamics to mirror the internal tension of committing to something unseen. Instead of  offering resolution, the song sustains a sense of openness, allowing vulnerability and resolve to coexist. Grounded in simplicity and careful listening, “Leap of Faith” reflects an ongoing practice invested in emotional presence, intimacy, and the expressive power of understatement.

"The Dilemma"

The Dilemma is a narrative work conceived and led by me as an artist-driven exploration of how a group of college students navigate identity, ambition, and belonging while battling the pressures college life brings. Through my direction and musical storytelling, the piece transforms everyday dilemmas, relationships, and choice into emotional and communal transformation. I approach love not as sentiment, but as an active, sustaining force. This work reflects my commitment to creating narrative-driven music that centers lived experience and collective resilience. By shaping both the musical and emotional architecture of the piece, I position The Dilemma as an artistic statement about how community is built—and how love, when practiced intentionally, becomes a tool for empowerment and change.

Shawn becomes entangled in a web of deception, anchoring a dramatic narrative that examines consequence, choice, and personal accountability. The performance was presented in four Baltimore City high schools, intentionally reaching students with limited access to live theater experiences. By bringing professional theatrical work directly into school spaces, the project expanded access to arts engagement for low-income students, creating opportunities for reflection, dialogue, and emotional connection. The work demonstrated how storytelling can function as both artistic expression and a tool for equity—meeting young audiences where they are and affirming their right to meaningful cultural experiences.

A Leap of Faith

Leap of Faith is a transparency driven work that examines trust, uncertainty, and emotional risk through a restrained melodic and lyrical approach. The song unfolds gradually, using repetition and subtle shifts in harmony and dynamics to reflect the tension of committing to something unseen. Rather than resolving its questions, the piece leaves space for vulnerability and resolve to coexist, emphasizing emotional presence and careful listening. The work reflects Rickey's ongoing songwriting practice grounded in intimacy, simplicity, and the expressive power of understatement.
