Place, Nature, and Cultural Memory is an ongoing body of representational paintings exploring how landscapes, animals, human figures, and culturally charged places accumulate meaning through observation, memory, story, and repeated representation. The works move between specific geographic locations, natural-history subjects, and images that have entered wider cultural consciousness.

I work primarily in oil on glass and oil or acrylic on canvas, using close observation, layered color, texture, and selective detail to translate source imagery into handmade paintings. Rather than treating the source as something to reproduce literally, I use painting to reconsider what makes an image memorable: the strangeness of an animal form, the physical identity of a landscape, a human presence within an extreme environment, or the associations attached to a particular place.

Across the series, I am interested in the tension between documentation and interpretation. Some works preserve recognizable locations or organisms, while others isolate, compress, or transform their subjects until they become almost emblematic. Together, the paintings examine how the natural world and human culture continually reshape one another through images.
