Modern Art Meets Cubism - Chained GingerChained Ginger - A tribute to women in chains. "Women in chains" generally symbolizes female oppression, lack of agency, and being trapped by societal expectations, abusive relationships, or patriarchal systems, most famously explored in the Tears for Fears song "Woman in Chains," which references feminist literature and domestic abuse, but it can also literally refer to historical injustices like those faced by Black women in Jim Crow Georgia's prison system or the suffrage movement's protests. Modern Art Meets Cubism - Dr. King From His Jail Cell

This work translates King’s words and moral urgency into a bold cubist composition, fragmenting form and perspective to reflect the fractured reality of injustice and the complexity of the human struggle for freedom. About Errol
Errol W. McKinson is a resilient and vibrant, breakout award-winning artist whose work bridges cultural heritage, social consciousness, and modern artistic expression. Born in Jamaica, Errol developed an early fascination with the art that surrounded him in his homeland. Modern Art Meets Cubism
Welcome to Modern Art Meets Cubism (MAMC)—a bold and visionary series that marks a new revolution in my artistic journey and in the world of contemporary art.
As I explore the hidden secrets of modern art, a powerful vision emerges—one that mirrors daily life through fragmented perspectives, the play of light across ordinary scenes, and the emotional language of form and color. This series investigates how simple colors and definitive shapes can be transformed into expressive forces that speak directly to the human spirit.
Comprising over sixty original paintings, MAMC is deeply influenced by the legacies of Claude Monet, Paul Cézanne, and Pablo Picasso, whose mastery of light, structure, and abstraction continues to inspire my work today. Yet this series is not a reflection of the past—it is a reinterpretation for the present, where modern realities meet timeless artistic principles. Each painting in MAMC invites the viewer to pause, reflect, and feel—to discover beauty in the everyday and meaning within abstraction. As one guiding principle of this series declares: “Skill without imagination is craftsmanship; imagination without skill gives us modern art.” Modern Art Meets Cubism is where both meet—where discipline and creativity unite to form a living, evolving expression of contemporary life.

Modern Art Meets Cubism - Cubism
Cubism is a revolutionary early 20th-century art movement pioneered by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque that transformed the course of modern art. Breaking from tradition, Cubism presents subjects from multiple viewpoints simultaneously, fragmenting form into geometric structures and rejecting single-point perspective. In doing so, it reveals a richer context and embraces the two-dimensional nature of the canvas itself.
In my exploration of the hidden secrets of modern art, I draw from this revolutionary language of form by combining Cézannian Cubism with both Analytic and Synthetic Cubism. Through this fusion, I deconstruct reality and reconstruct it with intention—layering perspective, texture, and symbolism to create compositions that are both visually dynamic and emotionally resonant.
This approach allows my work to move beyond representation, inviting viewers into a deeper dialogue between structure and imagination, tradition and innovation—where modern vision meets the enduring spirit of Cubism.

Modern Art Meets Cubism - Activism Meets Justice
This work stands as a tribute to the many faces that have fought for social justice—the enduring belief that all people deserve equal economic, political, and social rights, as well as equal opportunity. Social justice is not a cause with a final destination; it is a living force that sustains accountability, equity, and the continual pursuit of fairness.
Activism is not defined by a title alone. An activist can be anyone willing to engage, uplift, and stand with their community. True activism is measured not by words, but by participation, responsibility, and impact. Together, these principles form the foundation of a society striving not only for justice, but for lasting human dignity.

Modern Art meets Cubism - Reflections of the Holocaust and Strange Fruit
Disclaimer: The images presented in this series of artwork are a reflection of the atrocities documented by historians. The content may be considered inappropriate, disturbing, and difficult to absorb for some people and should only be viewed by those older than 18. Parental guidance suggested.
Remembering those who has suffered during those perilous times. As an artist I follow my vision and where it leads me. Hence came forth, the birth of reflections of the holocaust and southern tree.
The Holocaust (1933–1945) was the systematic, state-sponsored persecution and murder of six million European Jews by the Nazi German regime and its allies and collaborators. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum defines the years of the Holocaust as 1933–1945. The Holocaust era began in January 1933 when Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party came to power in Germany. It ended in May 1945, when the Allied Powers defeated Nazi Germany in World War II. The Holocaust is also sometimes referred to as “the Shoah,” the Hebrew word for “catastrophe.”

Modern Art Meets Cubism - At The Asylum
At The Asylum - For over a decade, I have been recognized in juried exhibitions and online galleries as a resilient and vibrant artist committed to meaningful storytelling through art. In recent years, my work has increasingly focused on giving a voice to the voiceless—using visual expression to illuminate lives too often unseen or misunderstood.
From this vision emerged my latest series, Modern Art Meets Cubism – At The Asylum, a profound and unflinching portrayal of life within a shadowed and fragile world. This series was inspired by my personal experiences witnessing homelessness and the struggles of individuals living with mental illness in and around my communities.
Today, as a nation, we continue to grapple with the realities of mental health, with nearly one in five Americans affected each year. Clinical depression and anxiety disorders remain among the most common conditions, shaping not only individual lives but the collective conscience of our society. Through this series, I seek not only to represent suffering, but to awaken empathy, understanding, and a call for compassion.
The proceeds from this series will be donated to asylums with needy cause.

Modern Art Meets Cubism - Homelessness
The American pandemic : Homelessness in America is a significant issue, with a record-high 653,104 people experiencing homelessness on a single night in January 2023. A large portion of these individuals, 39.3%, are unsheltered, and the number of people entering emergency shelters has increased. Poverty, lack of affordable housing, and mental health and substance use disorders are major factors contributing to homelessness. The majority of homeless people in the United States have been homeless for less than one year

Modern Art meets Cubism - Cuban Experience
The Cuban Experience explores the vibrant and complex lifestyles of Cuban tobacco farmers and women cigar vendors, often known as jineteras, who are deeply interwoven into Cuba’s cultural and economic fabric. These individuals play a vital role in sustaining one of the nation’s most iconic industries and in shaping its global image through tourism.
Each year, nearly 100 million premium cigars are handcrafted in Cuba by skilled artisans known as torcedores, who meticulously combine leaves from different tobacco varieties to achieve distinct flavors and character. Every cigar is carefully sorted by color, inspected for imperfections, and elegantly boxed for sale—reflecting a tradition of craftsmanship passed down through generations.
At the heart of this series is Carlotta the Cigar Vendor, a powerful portrait that celebrates dignity, labor, and resilience. This piece earned the Juror’s Choice Award at the Howard County Arts Council’s Art Howard County 2021 exhibition, affirming its artistic and cultural significance.
Through The Cuban Experience, I aim to honor both the artistry behind the cigar and the people whose lives are inseparable from its creation.

Modern Art meets Cubism - The Coal Miners
Coal Miners : This series honors the hardworking men and women of the coal mining industry, whose labor has fueled society for centuries. Coal miners became especially vital during the Industrial Revolution, when coal powered engines, heated buildings, and drove the expansion of industry.
Because of coal’s strategic importance as a primary energy source, miners have long played a central role in labor movements and political advocacy, fighting for fair treatment, safety, and workers’ rights.
Through this work, I celebrate the many faces that represent this community—resilient, steadfast, and integral to the progress and history of our society.

Modern Art meets Cubism - Weeping Willows at Giverny
The Weeping Willow series at Giverny was created while I was on tour at Giverny in France, home of Claude Monet the renowned master of Impressionism. It was an amazing experience painting this series as it brought me closer to my original inspiration of impressionism. The mountain veiled in mist is not a hill; an oak tree in the rain is not a weeping willow. It usually wears light green foliage with long thin leaves, it has Asian roots, it has quadruple 'U' for initials, it is a Weeping Willow. "Cry not for me my willow tree, don't shed your tears eternally, because I found the love I have been waiting for" -Alton Ellis.

Modern Art Meets Cubism - A Look at DC
A Look At DC : Inspired by Claude Monet’s cathedral paintings, A Look at DC captures the vibrant spirit and architectural grandeur of the nation’s capital. As I traveled daily throughout the city, I was continually drawn to its monuments, streets, and historic landmarks. From sunrise to sunset, the shimmering interplay of light across brick, stone, and glass revealed a beauty that demanded to be painted.
It has been said, “With columns, curves, lines, horizontals, and verticals, this city shall stand strong.” In this series, I translate that strength, elegance, and luminous energy into a cubist-modern lens, offering viewers not just a view of the city, but an experience of its rhythm, light, and enduring presence.
A Look at DC invites you to see the capital through both its structures and its soul—a modern homage to the vibrancy and resilience of this iconic city.
