Other Anthropomorphic Oil Paintings

There is a bit of alter-ego and escapism on my part in these paintings. This collection of oil paintings anthropomorphizes the main characters in whimsical and surreal settings . They blend classical and imaginative elements. The images are inspired by various famous paintings throughout history. Each art piece combines surrealism with a touch of nostalgia, creating an atmosphere that invites viewers to explore and imagine. The portraits challenge conventional portraiture. I added rich textures in the garments and natural landscapes to add depth and a tactile quality, inviting the viewer to not only look but to feel the pieces.

The choice of subject and style encourages viewers to reflect on the relationship between nature, history and imagination.

When I first started painting I was attracted to the farm animals in my neighborhood. I was particularly fond of the hounds that live up the street from me. They show so much expression in their faces. I fell in love with their antics and wanted to capture their behaviors.

Twisty Tales

These dioramas are made from trash. I used twisty ties for the bodies and bread clips for the faces. The trash itself inspired the settings. Some pieces are made of carryout and packaged food containers, printer packaging, dental implements etc. I always thought that the clips looked like screaming faces and that they would be fun in made up sets.

I had conceived an installation of 10 sculptures after the loss of a loved one. The sculptures are closed plexiglass structures with thousands of cigarette butts. There is plastic tubing wrapped around many.

Submission for The Vietnam Women's Memorial Project

In 1990 there was a competition for a design to represent the women who participated in the Vietnam War. The prospectus stated that they were looking for a sculpture that would coordinate with Maya Lin's Vietnam Veterans Memorial, but represent the women's contributions. I designed a large pink marble grosgrain ribbon to be floating between the trees. You would see Maya Lin's memorial in the distance. A lass, they chose a realistic statue of women nurses taking care of an injured man.
