  • Mrs L. Climbs the Ladder
    Mrs L. Climbs the Ladder

    2025

Acrylic, paper clay, wood, resin, found materials, light

    62”12”x20”

This work is part self-portrait, part personal narrative, and also an allegory of transformation through the creative process. As a self-portrait, it represents over 30 years of experience on extension ladders painting houses. As a semi-fictionalization of a personal narrative, it is a memory of our former customer, Mrs. L, who decades ago climbed our extension ladder in heels and a skirt with the excuse of being locked out, but really for the experience of it (of course, not in her underwear). In a story of transformation, as the figure climbs, she sheds her clothing, the trappings of her former life, and she ascends to what awaits her, which is uncertain.

    Omnivore's Dilemma

    2015

    Painted and glazed stoneware

    12" x 14.5" x 9"

The conjoined twins in this piece present a moralized choice as good or bad; however, oversimplified, polarized moral options, often portrayed in advertising from the mid-century onward, still pressure women today, whether for maintaining a figure, for raising children, or for doing whatever society presents as acceptable at the time.

    Gastroenterology

    2026

Wood, paper clay, paint, resin, paper, found objects

    12.75"x6.75"x1.75"

An unnerving look at digestive medicine; an allusion to the creative process; the attraction and repulsion of both pink and red, and a search for what is real or fake, is addressed in this piece.

  • Untitled (Women In Boxes)
    Untitled (Women In Boxes)

    2000, revised 2025

Painted and glazed ceramic, rhinestones, fabric

    21.25" x 20.5" x 2.25"

Originally this work was conceived as multiple parts that would be hung closely together, and eventually were formed as one piece. Each of the ceramic female figures, as erotic dancers or nudes, are trapped and under tension, conforming  to the dimensions of the boxes that confine them.

About Kira

"My artwork primarily focuses on the female body, addressing themes of the body's relationship with its environment, finding balance, and the artist's struggle with the creative process. I am inspired by life events, personal narratives, recurring dreams, and female archetypes in various stages of life. My figures often have an uneasy tension with their surroundings.
I incorporate a variety of materials - ceramic, papier mache, paper clay, wood, resin, glass, motors,… more
