Kira's profile
"My artwork primarily focuses on the female body; I often depict female archetypes in various stages of life. Thematically, I address the body's relationship with its environment, finding balance and wellness, personal transformation, and the artist's struggle with the creative process. I am inspired by life events, personal narratives, and recurring dreams such as dreams of flooding or leaking water. My figures often have an uneasy tension with their surroundings.
I incorporate a variety of materials - ceramic, papier mache, paper clay, wood, resin, glass, motors, lights, and found items, and enjoy contrasting textures and stark colors. My obsessive attention to detail and perfectionism have been both helpful and inhibiting to my creative process, allowing me to focus on small details but also causing some of my works to remain unfinished; as a result, I frequently continue to work on and revise pieces for many years and sometimes decades.”
Kira has lived in Baltimore over 35 years, since attending the Maryland Institute College of Art, where she graduated with a degree in sculptural studies in 1993. She has shown her work primarily in the Baltimore area and is a former member of the Potters Guild of Baltimore.
