About Andy

My work ventures beyond traditional boundaries of landscape painting to develop new techniques of depiction. The central question of my recent work has been: "What makes a painting recognizable as a landscape?" Inherently, we recognize shapes, forms, colors and textures as indicative of "landscapes." Old Baltimore

Old photographs of Baltimore are mined from the Library of Congress archive, and converted to cyanotype prints. Those prints are then layered with oil pastel to create the final work.
