Prometheus
'Prometheus', 2024
Chalk and charcoal, 82 x 61 cm
This is a personal piece about how I would like to die.
Inspired by Camus's Sisyphus analogy, as well as the myth of Prometheus (a distinctively immortal being), I assume the physical death of a Promethean figure and offer the embodiment of his infinite tortures as his newfound purpose: to nurture a bird family. He will metamorphose alongside the continual assimilation of this bird family into even the deepest factions of nature, and in this way--especially with change being one of the most cogent indications of alive-ness we recognize--he lives on forever. It is my hope that his spirit, though tormented, can find peace in the act of fostering new forms of life for centuries to come.

A Fate
'A Fate', 2023
Chalk and charcoal, 50 x 60 cm
Inspired by the masterpieces of Vermeer, 'A Fate' is a piece that pulls inspiration from the unexpected human-like fallibility of Greek mythological heroes and divinities, and applies it to a sister among the infamous Moirai of European polytheism in a manner reflective of the Dutch Golden Age. We catch a glimpse into the innocuous aspects of a world recognized for its bizarre supernaturalism: a single Fate of three—a motif known primarily for their grand responsibility over the experiences, conditions, and timelines of mortal individuals—is tangled up in her string of life, which itself is a fate we mortals can strongly relate to. In this way, the viewer finds solace in the imperfections of an otherwise untouchable being, and is thus brought closer to the ethereal.
