What does a doubt look like? Especially a hairy one?

When I first considered this concept during a residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre in Ireland in 2014, it struck me as a way to objectify those internal moments that challenge our growth, or ability to confront whatever binds, blinds or deafens us. Although being doubtful has become the fashion, the unchecked impulse leads to many consequences, that can close doors, create groundless fears, drown hope, kill vision, give birth to raging accusations and foster an atmosphere of offense as a point of pride. Bottom line, doubt divides people. It becomes a trap.
So, in Ireland I constructed a large mixed media Trap for a Hairy Doubt, which is not posted online- yet. Then, after returning home, I began the small series:  Face Traps.

Humor is often a reasonable antidote or a way to objectify doubt. Thus I'm in the process of  writing a children's book. These are among the illustrations.

"Long, long ago, there was a little boy who lived in a cabin in the urban woods... and under his bed at night, lived a little hairy doubt..."
