The Procession

The Procession and other pieces in this series were inspired by travels to Bahia, Brazil to observe the mid-August Festival of the Sisterhood of Boa Morte. These elderly women preserve their deeply cultural and spiritual traditions of Afro-Brazilian roots in the town of Cachoeira Brazil. Each August for five days the elderly sisters of the fraternity dress in their ceremonial regalia, and parade through the streets of Cachoeira celebrating life, death and happiness.
