  • Floating Foliage
    Floating Foliage

This picture, done in 2024,  is about 7 x 9, resting in a bit larger frame. I get inspired by my travels. Along the Amazon River and its tributaries, plants float along the surface all year along. They are moved by the wind, the current and boats. Birds, frogs, insects rest and live on them. To me this is a signature vista of that area.

  • Druid Hill tree in Fall
    Druid Hill tree in Fall

I volunteer at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore.  This tree stands just outside of it, near the entrance. I loved the way some leaves remain on the tree so much longer than especially the leaves at the top and the beautiful color of the leaves.

This is approximately 12 x 18. Painted canvas.

  • Barren Tree
    Barren Tree

This is one of the striking images I remember about the Bush in Limpopo, South Africa. I volunteered on a game reserve and of course the animals were amazing. But the foliage was too: the acacias with their long thorns and then these standing barren trees standing tall in a clearing. They were stunning in their way.

This picture is about 9" x 11". Thread on painted canvas.

  • Patapsco River flowing
    Patapsco River flowing

This piece was done late spring of 2024.  This was a place along the Patapsco River I have never seen been. You climbed down the hill and came to this quiet meeting to land and river.

The picture is about 9" x 11". Painted canvas with thread.

About Judi

I create images of nature with threads, which I call thread drawings. I use this medium because it expresses the complexity of nature better for me that pencils or paint.
I love to travel and so quite often the pictures are my impressions of actual places of where I have been: the colors on an Indian street; the barreness of a tree in the African Bush or the floating plants along the tributaries of the Amazon.
I was born and raised in Baltimore, going to University of Maryland… more
