Human Touch

Human Touch is an installation representing my journey during the past few years, it is autobiographical and abstract. The project describes what it feels like to be close to someone physically, what it means to pass by unnoticed, how it looks to both celebrate and hide. By using collage and subtractive sculpting techniques, I play with the relationship between construction and destruction in my canvas work.

The layering of the individual wood pieces is like stone or sediment on the ground; a top view of the sculpture is reminiscent of topography, which mimics the terrain of my journey. The soft quiet fleshy colors and gentle curves represent my femininity. The three wall sculptures are the inverse of the floor sculptures and explore the relationships between open forms, empty spaces, and time. This project is about a transformative journey and acceptance, including all of my trepidations and hesitations.
