Musician Portraits, 2022

The motivation for my musician portraits is always to capture the bands/artists the way they want to be seen. I was disheartened to hear that magazines and photographers would often ask bands to dress up or pose in a way that would better “fit their music." As a photographer and musician myself, that doesn't feel right to me. The best work I've ever created comes from collaboration, which is what I strive for.

Album Covers

I love Photographing/Art Directing album covers. No matter how many times people say "don't judge a book by it's cover" they do. Representing an album's sounds and words through its cover is both eye catching as it is important. One of the main reasons I started collecting records as a kid was their album covers. These are a collection of covers I've done for Baltimore bands from DIY to major label.

  • Joy Postell - 'Diaspora' Album Cover
Joy Postell - 'Diaspora' Album Cover
Diaspora is the debut record of Baltimore soul singer Joy Postell. The album which centers around the history of Black America and Black Consciousness explores these concepts through an influential jazz lens. Diaspora visually embodies itself as a black hair product, paying homage to black hair product advertising of the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s.

Ed Schrader's Music Beat - ‘Nightclub Daydreaming’ Album Cover
After turning heads with the densely orchestrated Riddles, produced by Dan Deacon, the Baltimore-based duo Ed Schrader’s Music Beat have given us another giant leap forward with their fourth record Nightclub Daydreaming. The whiplash-inducing stylistic shifts between aggressive noise rock and operatic gloom pop that have become the band’s trademark have given way to a single aesthetic that fuses both impulses. On Nightclub Daydreaming, menace teems just below the surface as propulsive, stark arrangements leave space that Schrader fills with strident, reverb-soaked narration.

  • Eyas - 'Object Permanence' Single Cover
Eyas - 'Object Permanence' Single Cover
Eyas' newest track, "Object Performance", is a glorious ode to fleeting memory. It begins with a big drum solo counting off a disorienting track that feels entirely locked into the now and slipping quickly through the sands of time. Her voice floats around and around playfully toying with the music which hints at everything from late 70's R & B to Broadcast to Melody’s Echo Chamber. It's a dreamy endeavor that you can easily get lost in.
  • Peach Face - 'Dirt' EP Cover

On May 28th, Baltimore-based artist Alison Ramírez, also known as Peach Face, released her debut EP, "DIRT." The EP features singles such as “Grilled Cheese” and “Lady Bird," with her latest track being “Dirt Boy,” featuring NotCharles. Even in the EP's relaxed, lo-fi pop atmosphere, Ramírez details solemn verses about the feeling of longing for someone and uncertainty. This theme is especially prevalent in the final track, “Basement Show.”
  • Super City - 'Sanctuary' Album Cover
Super City - 'Sanctuary' Album Cover
The band’s second full-length record, Sanctuary, shows off their staying power. Its 10 sensational songs are the kind of rock-star-worthy anthems and power ballads that just don’t get made anymore, featuring searing guitar solos, all-out soprano vocals, thunder-and-lightning drums, and full-blown shimmering fun.

In a world of bravado and swagger, Micah E. Wood’s unapologetically heart-on-his-sleeve music is a breath of fresh air. But where the local troubadour once sang about new relationships, unrequited romance, and the trials and tribulations of dating in modern times, his new self-titled record is a love letter to himself.

Features, 2012-2016

Features is a collection of band portaits taken over a four year span. The motivation for this project was to capture the bands that I love in a way that they loved. I was disheartened to hear that magazines and photographers would often ask bands to dress up or pose in a way that would better “fit their music." As a photographer and musician myself, that seemed wrong to me. I imagined that the best work would come from a collobaration between myself and the bands. So, I reached out to my favorite bands, close and far, and the results were fantastic! The photos were beautiful and the bands were happy with the way they were being represented.

-Features was released in May 26, 2016 after a succesful crowd funded Kickstarter campaign raising $6,200 to cover production costs.
-The book is 200 pages and features portriats of over 60 bands photographed by Micah between 2012 and 2016.

Features features photos of 83 Cutlass, Abdu Ali, Adam Lempel & the Heartbeats, Amanda Glasser, Basement Rap, Butch Dawson, Charly Bliss,Chester Endersby Gwazda , Chiffon, DaikonDaikon, Dan Deacon, Dangerous Ponies, Dead Mellotron, Dustin Wong, Edward Lasher, Everybody Yay, Fat Tony, Fun., Future Islands, Genevieve, Gold Motel, Great Minds, The Hush Sound, Infinite Honey, Islands, Jack Martin, Jacober, Jessica Lea Mayfield, Joey Cook and The Party Raddlers, La Gholson, Le Swish, Little Smoke, My Son Bison, Natural Velvet, Other Colors, Outer Spaces, Pianos Become The Teeth, Peals, Po Po, Rap Dragons, The Sea Life, Secret Mountains, Slipper, SMLH, The Snails, Soft Cat, Spank Rock, Spook Houses, Sri Aurobindo, The Sterling Sisters, Stoopbaby Mo, TT The Artist, Us and Us Only, The Visions, Weekends , White Laces, Wind and Window Flower, Wing Dam, Zaiah Burke

Micah E. Wood - Music

Born in the Tidewater of Virginia, Micah E. Wood moved to Baltimore in 2009 and quickly entrenched himself in the art scene. Befriending and collaborating with musicians across genre, be it the wild and weird hip hop wordsmiths, seductive dance producers, or the roots players. Micah’s sound is deeply influenced by Baltimore’s musical communities, creating a sonic cholent, long-stewed in Charm City.

Micah E. Wood returns with a fun-filled EP soaked in pop hooks bolstered by musical contributions of Baltimore’s finest. A long-time collaborator in the highly potent Baltimore arts scene, his sound has taken new form on this record, leaning into his talent as a songwriter able to craft the catchiest of melodies out of even the most mundane subjects. The EP is a delightful rock record perfect for a bouncy walk around the park. You will hear some Lou Reed, some Regina Spektor, some Kevin Morby and a whole world of Baltimore on this one. So put on your walking shoes, pop in the ear buds, embrace the end of a sweltering summer with a 6-song EP that will keep you bouncing as the steps add up.

---

“A prolific collaborator and charismatic performer, Wood has become a staple of the local music scene.“
-Baltimore Magazine, 2022

“Here, he emerges with six new nostalgia-tinged songs that feel like the fruits of his labors, evolving from the lovelorn lyrics and digi-pop melodies of his early work into some of his most expansive songwriting and versatile vocals yet—including his first true rock song, which draws inspiration from the likes of Lou Reed and Ramones.”
-Baltimore Magazine, 2022

“This is not your square grandparents' typical Xanadu or ABBA-odyssey but an updated vision of the polyester era through a dream machine lens captured in high def.“
-Week In Pop 2021

“Baltimore’s resident troubadour Micah E. Wood returns with a new single and love song we’ve been waiting for all along.”
-Baltimore Magaine 2020

“In a world of bravado and swagger, Micah E. Wood’s unapologetically heart-on-his-sleeve music is a breath of fresh air.”
-Baltimore Magaine 2019

Graphic Design Portfolio

I've used design as a way to communicate with my community via event rollouts, fundraising campaigns, branding for shows, and virtual concert experiences. Graphic Design should be accessible and convey information as clearly as possible for as many people as possible.

Most designs made during tener as Marketing Designer at Creative Alliance in the Highlandtown neighborhood of Baltimore, MD (2017-2022).

  • Poster Template Redesign | Creative Alliance
Poster Template Redesign | Creative Alliance
During my time as Marketing Designer at Creative Alliance I was able to redesign their print/Instagram poster template. The redesign made it so anyone on staff even without design knowledge could cleanly crop any show poster and put online. All print only info was placed at the top and bottom of the design while the info needed for digital was always in the center of the composition so it wouldn't get lost in cropping.

    Sidewalk Serenades 2022 Relaunch Campaign
reative Alliance believes that a Baltimore without live performances is a Baltimore without joy – and we won’t stand for that! As you likely know, working musicians, dancers, magicians, burlesque performers, aerialists, and other performance-based artists have had their gigs and their livelihoods cancelled for the foreseeable future. Join Creative Alliance in creating performance opportunities for these artists throughout Baltimore while simultaneously respecting the need for everyone to keep a safe distance.

Creative Alliance Print Calendar Redesign 2021-2022
During my time as Marketing Designer at Creative Alliance I was able to redesign their bi monthly mailer. The intent was to still mail out the calendar but also have it designed in a way that people could view online or print out at home with ease.
