Fort Hill at Allegany, a novel.pdf

Set in Cumberland, Maryland in 1995, FORT HILL AT ALLEGANY is about two boys from the “red,” poorer side of town and a girl from the “blue,” wealthier side of town who, despite everything that their high schools, their parents, and their communities tell them, want to continue loving each other. Buck and Adam, two boys from red, working-class Fort Hill, and Violet, from blue, white-collar Allegany, just want to be able to meet for Weird Club, where they watch art movies, read poetry when Buck makes them, and find in each other some light in the midst of so much darkness. But when Violet’s brothers find out about Weird Club, they pull Violet from the embrace of her friends, setting off a 15-mile, four-days-long odyssey to get her back, taking the trio through the most lawless, dangerous stretch of their Rust Belt Appalachian mountains. Along the way, they will betray each other, love each other, and fight to figure out what it is they want from the rest of their lives.

Fort Hill at Allegany

Three eighteen-year-olds from opposite, bitterly rivaled high schools, parts of town, and social classes, while figuring out their own complicated feelings for each other, must sneak their way into the heart of their divided western Maryland city, into its deeply held tensions, on a journey that gets more dangerous with every little passing Appalachian town.
