​A landscape is a part of the world as seen by the eye and recalled by the mind’s eye.  I find transparent watercolor to be a perfect medium for evoking the fleeting appearance of a place as seen in the light of a particular hour and day.

The forms of nature---the outline of a leaf, the mass of a rock, the curve of a wing--speak to the eye with singular voices , like individual faces we grow to recognize.  In my renderings of plants and minerals I endeavor to make these voices sing in texture and color.

From early in life, I have always loved animals, both wild and domestic.  They offer me, as an artist, countless examples of nature's diverse beauty, and much more: because they are animate creatures, I relate to them as akin to us, however different they may appear.  Watching animals, observing their movements, their behavior, and their relationships gives me a unique pleasure, both esthetic and emotional.  These paintings express both how I see them and how I respond to them.

In my abstract painting I aim to distill the organic curves and irregular forms that inspire my depictions of nature.   Colors and patterns fascinated me from a very young age, and today I work to develop a compositional language built on the beauty of  line, shape, and chromatic harmony.
