Zoe's profile

Zoe Friedman is a multimedia artist passionate about making work that is accessible to a wide audience. She starts by crafting things on an intimate scale, such as hand cut paper or scenes in a stop motion, and gradually builds them into immersive installations. Her work incorporates the ephemeral space around an object, such as light, shadow and movement, which then become an integral part of the piece itself.  Zoe's art moves between the familiar and the unknown, to incorporate both the domestic and the wild.

Zoe lives in Baltimore and her work has shown both locally and internationally. She has been a Henry Walters Traveling Fellow (2012), Fulbright ETA Fellow (2007), Trawick Prize Finalist (2014), MICA Fellow at the Bromo Seltzer Arts Tower (2012), and a resident on full fellowship at Vermont Studio Center (2012).  She has had solo shows in Baltimore, MD, Stillwater, OK, Arlington, VA, Brooklyn, NY, Washington DC, Oakland, CA, St. Petersburg, FL, and Copenhagen, Denmark. Most recently she had a solo exhibition at the Academy Art Museum in Easton, MD.

Zoe earned her MFA from the Mount Royal School of Art at MICA in 2012, and her BA from Eckerd College in 2007. She enjoys traveling and collaborating with artists and communities all over the world. She is an Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Time Based Media Program at Anne Arundel Community College.
