Taj's profile

Taj Poscé, a Philadelphia native now based in Baltimore, MD, earned his BFA from the Tyler School of Arts. Notably, he was nominated and selected for the prestigious Yale Norfolk Summer Residency during his time at Tyler. Further enriching his artistic journey, he secured a study abroad scholarship to work in a studio in Rome, Italy, and has garnered several visual arts awards along the way. Currently pursuing his MFA at the Maryland Institute College of Arts (MICA), Taj has received significant fellowship and scholarship awards. His work has been featured in various group exhibitions across the US and in Rome, Italy, with a notable solo exhibition at Rush Arts Philadelphia, which was spotlighted in the Philadelphia Inquirer. Taj's creative process involves thematic constructions using a diverse array of materials, including archival research materials, construction materials, studio-based mediums, and fire. Employing symbolic motifs and iconography, his paintings embody an intense emotional resonance, reflecting and reclaiming imagery intertwined with Black histories, culture, and experiences. Driven by the beauty and plight of Black life, Taj continually seeks to capture the essence of the present moment, artfully portraying the spiritual weight of the past while navigating the turbulent complexities of the future.
