OnTheRoad's profile
ON THE ROAD Entertainment is a subsidiary of the OnTheRoad / OTR Theater Company, Ltd. Created and founded August 2005 by MICHAEL LEROY HARDING, Playwright. When he found it difficult to have his plays produced on Broadway or even his own hometown of Baltimore. Michael asked family and friends to help him produce his plays at a variety of venues. The first venue being the Baltimore World Trade Center, 27th floor.
He became a member of the Baltimore Theatre Alliance and also a member of the Dramatist Guild. He found other Unknown-Playwrights and a diversity of entertainers to create Plays. This ensemble of Performers started to get known and pick-up engagements at a variety of venues. We had no brick & mortar call home, but we did get bookings! Our ensemble came to be called the ''on the road'' /OTR Theater Company.
Michael became the CEO and established the platform for Unknown-Playwrights. Also establishing social-issue stories is our focus. Stories about Alcoholism, Depression, Domestic Abuse, Teen Suicide, Gambling, PTSD, Bigotry, etc. Stories that hurt but always have resolve.
ON THE ROAD also makes a platform for aspiring Actors, the ones never having a resume. Many, many of these beginners can be seen with active roles in the HBO's series: WE OWN THIS CITY. By 2009, OTR had leased its first brick & mortar location. This building is now known as the: Motor House Theater, 120 W. North Ave. When the lease expired, OTR moved the company to the Forest Park Senior Center.
In late 2020, OTR began to hire other professional Artist & Instructors to teach dance, singing, music, and acting. We do this at the same time while hiring professionals to do studio-film production as well. Because we have accomplished 20 years of Theater production, our Filming subsidiary is known as ON THE ROAD Entertainment. The pandemic cost-us an audience-drop, but our Performers wanted work.
Three OTR Playwrights created a series of stage plays to be transformed into screenplays for a TV series. These scripts require many pre-teenage actors. The film-version auditions were overwhelming because many of the preteens needed to learn acting. After the pandemic, On The Road created a free AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM for Middle-school students.
Today this stage-play has evolved into a series of screenplays and filming about a Baltimore Dance Academy.
