Lee's profile
Lee Allen Schimmel is a versatile multi-instrumentalist whose work focuses on connecting with other artists to form a stronger community of creatives. His writing is inspired by an eclectic musical background stemming from classical, jazz, class rock, soul, theatre, and more. Surrounded by musicians and heavily involved in one of the most reputable and well-respected school theatre programs, Lee received extensive vocal training throughout high school. A grown-up “theatre kid,” Lee's music reflects his Philadelphia roots writing songs with rhythms that pull from soul and funk, and melodies that evoke pop, rock and jazz impressions. He has performed his original music across the country, from San Diego to Cape May, having been featured in conventions, festivals, and songwriter showcases, and more recently has assembled an incredible band of Baltimore musicians to form his 5-piece "Lee Allen Sounds"
Lee Allen is an also accomplished accompanist who works with various local artists to serve the needs and vibes of various venues. With a strong classically trained vocal background, Lee can add harmony and bring that little extra to any song. As a percussionist, Lee brings his unique and versatile style of hand-percussion whether he plays cajon, djembe, bongos, tambourine, or any other various instruments. His versatility as a rhythm and lead guitarist makes him a triple-threat when collaborating with others local musicians.
Lee has a passion for connecting with other artists, and building a community of creatives that can connect and support each other through art. While these ideas can be seen starting to come to light in his early works, Lee's passion for building artistic communities can be seen since his return to the music scene in 2023. Lee Allen Schimmel has made a name for himself not only as an accompanying musician, but also as a community and event organizer. Lee's thirst for finding and creating community has led to the creation of several community-inspired projects. Both Sunday Under the Covers and Collaboration Laboratory (Co.Lab) create opportunities for artists to connect and create together. Lee has been featured in a Voyage Baltimore Magazine Interview as well as a mini-documentary by PBS for his work as a musician as well as the founder and organizer of Collaboration Laboratory (Co.Lab) - a program designed to connect artists with their local community.
