Frances's profile

Frances James holds her MFA in Choreography. Frances has worked in the BCPSS as a Dance and Theater teacher. She has choreographed for Liturgical Dance Ministries, and the Unified Voices theater productions: "Smokey Joe's Cafe" and "Q-The Legend". Her choreography has been featured at the American College Dance Festival Association, Black College Dance Exchange, Artscape and Liturgical dance conferences. In addition to choreography, Frances enjoys teaching at local dance festivals and conferences. She is a return guest artist in residence at the Patapsco High School and Center for Performing Arts. This past fall, Frances was able to facilitate a master class on African religious dances to students at the Institute of Classical and Modern Dance in Mumbai, India as part of a Global Mentorship Workshop series. While Frances uses personal experiences to choreograph thought-provoking work, she hopes that her choreography will explore themes of hope and promise. Frances strives to celebrate blackness in her works and amplify black voices through her lens.
