Clarissa's profile
Visual artist and performer, mother of two, art educator of many, Clarissa Gregory’s work exists over multiple platforms: Maryland Film Festival, High Zero Festival, Artscape, Silber Art Gallery (Goucher College), Center for the Arts Gallery (Towson University), Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts, School33… and multiple media: drawing, painting, animation, dance.
A two-time Sondheim Artscape Semi-Finalist, Clarissa resides in Baltimore, having earned her MFA at Maryland Institute College of Art. She teaches foundational and painterly drawing at MICA, where she's also taught faculty workshops, such as “Drawing into Animation.” Her interactive workshop was featured in DrawitOUT!, an exhibition and lecture series curated by Renee van der Stelt and Gerald Ross. Clarissa earned an Adjunct Faculty Award for her book “Wake up Daddy,” which she’s currently publishing.
Clarissa annually resets her artistic juices for a week of solitude in the Georgia mountains at Lillian E. Smith’s Artist Residency. She was honored to receive a Full Fellowship at Vermont Studio Center and pines for a month-long stay once her children are older. Her roots, however, are in rural Wisconsin and northern Minnesota, where summers were spent barefoot on the rocky shores of Lake Superior.
